You're mistaking industrial warfare for wars for profit. Industrial warfare comes from the finance economy, and how the goal is to basically create a war that no one ever wins as to maintain a constant supply for military production.

Did Rome ever intentionally try to use strategies that would create a nominal flow of casualties among their own troops just so the blacksmiths and the tanners could make money from rearming new troops? Because that's what this is.

The Ukrainians exist in this war to die and get replaced, and in doing so, create more demand for NATO surplus weapons and equipment.

That's why they get antiquated and incompatible equipment that helps hedge the bets for the military contractors.
