I guess I've just never seen much evidence of this ontology. Money as we know it today came out of the silver mines of Brazil, gutted from the Earth by slaves for the benefit of mercenaries. This is what created the Hansa, and the modern credit economy.
Even if we go back far enough to Ancient Greece, where the vulgar philosophy of money originated, then what exactly did the Greeks do? Once again, it was slavery. Minerals gutted from the Earth, by people who were broken and diminished by their labour, who existed for no purpose besides producing money for their masters, and this supposed people.
Moreover, how can money not be a commodity? It is entirely based on exchange over use. This is the very definition of a commodity.
