God instructs me to be patient with people, so I will do my best here.
Now first off, it's good that you are familiar with American economic hegemony. There is also an American cultural hegemony, and by attempting to correct me with these coarse and vulgar understandings of political terminology, you are currently propagating it.
First off, neoliberalism started with Thatcher and Reagan, not Clinton. Famously so. You're probably thinking of Fukuyamaism, which was an analysis of the phenomenon that I believed happened around the Clinton years.
Secondly, what you describe as the left is actually by international standards the right wing. Even Bernie Sanders is considered a reactionary, in Europe his school of Fabianism is known as "The moderate wing of fascism." This is because of how social democrats have a long history of Nazi collaboration, union busting and eugenics and persecution of ethnic minorities.
The Nordic model is, unsurprisingly, built on a racially segregated underclass, international arms deals and grueling labour. Collective bargaining only exists for the predominately white upper class and labour aristocracy, most other people do not even have a minimum wage.
And the US never served the will of the people. If you have the time then I would recommend reading Thomas Paine's Common Sense and also Age of Reason. These are books about the abolition of slavery. The first thing the US government did was to betray the people, and exile Thomas Paine and censor his writings.
The slave owners also formed a very powerful lobby in the US, and bought up most of the newspapers, and rigged every election from the very start.
While the people wanted republican values such as peace, racial equality, the abolition of slavery, the universal rights of men and women, extended even to black people and Indians, the US government employed genocidal tyranny such as the Monroe Doctrine.
The Boston patriots did not fight and die just so that Andrew Jackson could bring his soldiers into Florida and burn down native homes, and rape, and torture and dismember indigenous people, including the children.
They were moved by the radical traditions of the Quakers, who had been abolitionists and a strong opposition to war for over a century prior to the US revolution.
So there really is no evidence that the US government has ever served the people. You can also read Jefferson's writings on what he called "factionalism." Which was his euphemism for class contradictions.
The first point of order for the Washington mafia was to abolish every possibility of democracy, and institute the same slaver oligarchy that removed democracy from ancient Greece.
And the CIA is actually very happy about western European communists. Since they are weak willed petit bourgeois academics who are pursuing careers and book deals, they are easily bribed and extorted. Plus, France has always been famous for their prostitutes.
